Over the years, Henry Cavill has donned the skin of a spy, a superhero, a detective, and more, but his favorite character is about being every director’s favorite. For Snyder he could be the “warrior monk” but for Christopher McQuarrie, he remains the “classic movie star”. Time and again, different filmmakers from the industry have had their eyes on Cavill to render a range of characters except for one, the ace director, Christopher Nolan.

In a 2019 interview with Collider, The Witcher creator, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich opened up about her challenges of presenting a story of three pivotal characters of different timelines. The characters in question are Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri from season 1. She said to arrange a smooth depiction, she “really based the timelines on the movie Dunkirk”. Hissrich further added that she watched the movie shortly before “working on The Witcher”.
Following that, she also reportedly read a “great interview with Christopher Nolan”. In the interview, Nolan was reportedly “talking about these three phases of getting soldiers off of this beach”. Although Hissrich did feel a little “crazy” to do the same with The Witcher’s story, she however did manage to bring out a flawless narrative with the three characters and their diverse timelines.

The Witcherverse is truly magnificent in its ordeal. However, to achieve this magnificence, not only Henry Cavill and his creator, but even the novelist, Andrzej Sapkowski, traveled the extra mile. The book series draws inspiration from medieval history and folklore in exacting a fictional world of its own. Although the architecture and landscapes straight-up resemble the medieval European ambiance, there is more.
The social structure portrayed in The Witcher also hails the classic feudal system of kings and knights. Furthermore, it even borrows the key mythological creatures of medieval Europe like vampires, dragons, and werewolves. Geralt, too, embodies the dictums of the time with his knighthood and chivalry, a culture part and parcel of the timeline. Hence, despite Sapkowski’s lamentations of Netflix’s The Witcher, it seems the author gave his all to actualize the world of sorcerers to its fame today.
