After having a bad second quarter, Netflix desperately needed a win. And fortunately, that came in the form of The Sandman. The Netflix Original adaptation was one of the best shows by the streamer to date. Not only did The Sandman remain faithful to the original comic book material, but it also gave the world many other things to marvel at, such as its incredible visuals. However, another aspect of the show that people can’t stop appreciating is the performance of its actors. Every actor in the show delivers a subliminal performance that mesmerizes audiences.

But the best out of all was by Tom Sturridge himself. Tom plays the titular character of Dream and completely excels at it. However, did you know Neil had an issue with Neil doing the Batman voice as Morpheus?

The Sandman is the culmination of a long and winding journey, one that is almost as complex and convoluted as the comics themselves. Not only are fans eager to see an accurate adaptation, but so are the actors. Gaiman tells how Tom Sturridge, who plays Morpheus, continued employing the Batman voice in his search for the role. It ultimately became so bad that Gaiman had to order Sturridge to stop.

In a recent interview, Neil shared how he asked Tom to stop making his voice coarse. “He wasn’t aware he was doing it. He wasn’t doing it as Batman. He was just trying to find something for a Morpheus voice that was more talking in white on a black background, I think,” said Gaiman.
