The witchers, the demon slayers, or the mutants—call them what you will—there are plenty of them in The Witcher universe. No surprise there considering the title, but while the title usually implies the focus on a single powerful witcher, the show actually features several other witchers of comparable strength. Over the course of three seasons, Netflix has brought to light the power and capabilities of several witchers.

This countdown, featuring the top seven witchers across the universe, will prove that Henry Cavill’s character is just the tip of an iceberg on the show.

7. Eskel

Eskel, played by Basil Eidenbenz, played a significant role in the lives of both Geralt and Ciri. He had the responsibility of training Ciri alongside Geralt. Eskel had an inherent patient and kind nature but was portrayed as too confrontational on the show, especially towards Ciri. He was also a very capable witcher who proved to be a formidable ally during the chaotic arrival of the Wild Hunt.

His death on the show was because of a monstrous transformation, triggered by an infection, which unleashed chaos inside the castle. This led Geralt to set his sword ablaze to kill his friend with a heavy heart. This particular plot was in the minds of the makers for a long time, and they wanted to use it as a source of motivation for Geralt to train Ciri to defend herself.

6. Deglan

The first time Deglan’s mention came about in the franchise was during the second season of The Witcher. However, it wasn’t until The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, an adult animated dark fantasy film on Netflix, that fans were given a comprehensive look into the character. Deglan was the mentor of Geralt’s mentor, who realized that people do not hunt witchers to keep themselves protected from the monsters. Therefore, he planned to secretly breed monsters to keep the witchers in business.

The Scottish actor and author Graham McTavish was the man behind the voice of Deglam on the animated show. Interestingly, the same actor also played the live-action role of Dijkstra in The Witcher Season 2. In the original books, the character got very limited space and was referred to as a “mysterious wanderer”. However, the show took the liberty of presenting the character in a more expansive light. Fans even got a glimpse of the robust armor he sported in The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf

5. Lambert

Just like Geralt and Eskel, Lambert, played by Paul Bullion in The Witcher, was a member of the Wolf Witcher School. However, he never volunteered to be a part of the witcher’s world. It was his drunkard father, who traded Lambert to pay off the debt of his life to a witcher. Despite being a supportive character, his comedic presence added a refreshing touch to the fantasy drama. He also proves to be a pivotal figure, knowingly or unknowingly motivating her to do her best.

Lambert was also the only witcher who survived the onslaught at Kaer Morhen when Ciri was possessed by Voleth Meir. Though his appearance was nothing like the depiction in the original books of Andrej Sapkowski, his characteristics were certainly similar. He was showcased as a prickly and arrogant character on the show.

Beneath the surface, however, he was actually a kind witcher grappling with a life he never chose.

4. Fjall

Fans were introduced to this powerful witcher in the fantasy miniseries created by Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, The Witcher: Blood Origin. The four-part series showcased Fjall’s character, played by Laurence O’Fuarain, on a quest for revenge. The story takes place a thousand years before Henry Cavill’s The Witcher. The true potential of Fjall and his strength becomes evident when he confronts a monster and engages in a fierce battle with it.

In the heat of the battle, Fjall steps into his powerful role, seizing an axe and sending it hurtling towards the monster to knock it down. Fuelled by rage, he also takes down Callan and only gets calmed down after Eile begins singing to him. He then requests Eile to kill him who gently complies. Interestingly, both these characters are speculated to be involved in Ciri’s bloodline.

3. Vesemir

Vesemir was a witcher who was known for his extensive knowledge of monsters, which surpassed the combined knowledge of all the witchers present on the continent. As Geralt’s mentor and a protégé of Deglan, the character brought to life by actor Kim Bodnia appeared in both The Witcher: The Nightmare of the Wolf and The Witcher series. Apart from training Geralt, he also played a role in training Ciri and a handful of children he rescued from Kaer Morhen.

He was also the only witcher to reach the most advanced age while still actively engaging in the rigors of the lives of monster slayers. Even Geralt questioned his ability to face Vesemir once. Despite being in his old age, Vesemir had exceptional blade skills. It was even believed that he could have easily taken on younger witchers.

2. Geralt

Geralt is one of the leads in Netflix’s The Witcher. He is renowned for his high resistance to injury, poison, and diseases. He also possesses the power of slow aging and demonstrates great stamina, speed, and strength. Undoubtedly, he is one of the strongest witchers on the continent and can effortlessly knock down men twice his size. Thanks to his mutation, he can also utilize magic in combat against adversaries.

He is probably the sole character who is faithfully represented in the series, aligning closely with both the original books and the games. Some credit for this should go to Henry Cavill, who made consistent efforts to suggest the use of the original dialogues and nuances for Geralt. Even though the face of Geralt will change in the upcoming season, his motive will remain to find Ciri and protect her against evil.

1. Ciri

Ciri has long been an underdog, sheltered by the witchers who trained her to be a witcher. However, Season 3 aptly shows her abilities that can surpass that of any other witcher on the continent. What makes Ciri rank at no 1 on this list is her exceptional lineage, unique abilities, and training. Ciri hailed from the influential elder bloodline and is a descendant of the influential sorceress Lara Dorren. This gave her extraordinary magical strength, giving her an edge over others.

She also holds the unique capability to traverse between various dimensions. This was possible because of the elder blood teleportation powers she inherited. This allowed her to navigate away from dangerous situations. Finally, the training she underwent from witchers, including Geralt, contributed significantly to her strength, making her even more powerful than Geralt himself.
