‘Friends’ Actress Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigl Once Credited $249 Billion Worth Netflix for Keeping the Classics Alive
In recent years, the world seems to have gained an appreciation for old classic sitcoms. From shows like Friends to Gossip Girl and even The Gilmore Girls, they have all made a comeback. While some could say that the shows were ahead of their time, or that they created a safe space for their fans, actress Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigl once credited their success to the streaming platform, Netflix.
Although their show, Grey’s Anatomy, was also one among the resurrected series, they could not help but tip their hats to the streaming media company just a few months ago.

In June of last year, former Grey’s Anatomy co-stars, Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigl sat down with Variety for their Actors on Actors conversation. It was their first time reuniting since the 45-year-old had left the show in its sixth season. After a quick catch-up, they dived into how their fame from the sitcom still had them being recognized today. However, the actresses only had Netflix to thank for their show’s “rebirth.”
Pompeo also ended up crediting the success of the NBC sitcom, Friends, and even Gossip Girl to be thanks to the streamer. She also added that the drama series was what her daughter was watching at the moment. While most stars are lucky to have one epic sitcom in their portfolio, the 54-year-old ended up with two. Although she might be remembered for her role as Meredith Grey, she also starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, and the rest of the 6-time Emmy-winning show.
It may have only been for a single episode. However, long before Ellen Pompeo became a leading star in Grey’s Anatomy, she made an appearance in NBC’s Friends.

Over the years, Friends brought in a lot of different stars as guest members. While the original cast of Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, and Jennifer Aniston stayed the same, many others came and went. From Brad Pitt to a Bruce Willis cameo and more, the series always brought in new faces. However, in season 10, they added Ellen Pompeo as a Missy Goldberg, who was a former college classmate of Ross and Chandler.
While both the men had a thing for her, they had sworn not to try anything funny so as to not mess up their friendship. However, during the episode, The One Where The Stripper Cries, it was revealed that Perry’s character had not lived up to that promise.
