Freya Allan’s Ciri Gets a Makeover Yet Again, Following a Pivotal Change for 'The Witcher' Season 4

With Henry Cavill’s farewell to the Witcherverse, the journey across the Continent will never be the same, and nor will be encountering the Geralt the world has previously known. Yet, the intrigue surrounding The Witcher 4 extends beyond this, especially with Freya Allan's portrayal of Ciri introducing new elements that suggest a shift into uncharted territory. While Ciri has undergone transformations throughout the series, the latest overhaul, coupled with significant changes to the seasoned monster hunter, has sparked speculation about whether this season will match the blockbuster success of its predecessors.

Recent reports have highlighted Allan's dramatic transformation as Ciri, intensifying the anticipation of the upcoming chapter from the world of The Witcher.

The Witcher's upcoming fourth installment is poised for significant changes, with Liam Hemsworth stepping into the role of Geralt as Netflix aims to seamlessly transition this change using elements from The Witcher books. Meanwhile, Freya Allan's portrayal of Ciri is set to reclaim the spotlight for this season. Her romantic shift has already fueled anticipation, and Redanian Intelligence further stoked this excitement recently by revealing two new details: a tattoo and a haircut for Ciri in the upcoming season.

In the books, Ciri and the Rats temporarily take over a tattoo studio, resulting in tattoos for themselves. Mistle gets a red rose on her upper thigh, and Ciri, being in a relationship with her, receives a matching one. Reportedly, this scene was filmed for Block 2 or episodes 3 or 4. Fans may recognize a similar tattoo on Ciri from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt during her time in Skellige. As for the haircut, it is said to be a simple shoulder-length style but still a departure from her previous look in the first images released for season four.

For Ciri, this makeover is not one and all for her run in The Witcher. In season 2 as well, Allan’s character had to undergo some major changes that even pushed fans to believe she had been recast for a while.

When The Witcher's second season premiered in 2021, fans were initially taken aback by the apparent transformation of Freya Allan's Ciri, leading to speculation that she had been recast. This disbelief stemmed from the noticeable changes in her appearance, which seemed to suggest a significant passage of time between the first and second seasons, despite the narrative continuity. In reality, though, the difference was exacerbated by the extended hiatus caused by Covid-19 and Allan's decision not to bleach her eyebrows.

The filming for season 2 was originally supposed to begin in February 2020 when Allan was 18 years old, but because of pandemic-related delays, production continued until March 2021, just months before her 20th birthday. While the changes for her character in the upcoming fourth season are not as naturally explained as those in the second, they nonetheless peak fans' curiosity about what lies ahead for her in the new season.
