Freya Allan Flips Through the Final Book of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Saga, Ahead of Filming ‘The Witcher’ Season 5
The Witcher has always been one of Netflix’s most polarizing yet popular shows. And with the fourth season bringing a new Geralt to fans, opinions about the series are about to get even more diverse. The good news is that the last two seasons are being filmed back-to-back, so the wait between seasons 4 and 5 should not be as long as the previous breaks. Plus, the cast seems fully invested in their preparations.
Freya Allan, who plays Ciri in the show, is now sharing her preparation work for filming the fifth and final season of The Witcher as well.

Freya Allan recently posted an Instagram story where she was seen holding up Andrzej Sapkowski’s book, The Lady of the Lake. This is the fifth and final novel in The Witcher Saga, serving as a sequel to the fourth novel, The Tower of the Swallow. Most likely, Allan was taking notes for the final season and her character in the Netflix show, which is about to start filming in early 2025. But her deep knowledge of the books will only come in handy if the Lauren Hissrich-led show sticks close to the original material—something the series is infamous for not doing.
While the Netflix adaptation is faithful in some aspects, it has often made major changes to the lore by altering characters, timelines, and plotlines. This has been a huge point of disappointment for fans of the original books and games, including the author, and to some extent, reportedly even Henry Cavill. Despite this, Allan is excited to see certain storylines from the books explored in the fourth and fifth seasons.
Last year, Allan discussed Ciri’s character arc from the end of the third season and her eagerness to see those developments continue.
Freya Allan on her favorite storylines from the books
In an interview with Inverse last year, Freya Allan mentioned that she only had a rough idea of what The Witcher's final season could focus on, but she is thrilled about Ciri’s current storyline, which sees her joining a group of reckless outcasts known as the Rats. As Allan puts it, Ciri is “really coming into being an adult and a woman — and not necessarily in the most healthy way.”

Allan also shared her thoughts on her bond with Liam Hemsworth, the new Geralt, while also expressing sympathy for the immense pressure he is currently under. While Allan clearly leans on the books to enhance her performance in The Witcher, her co-star Anya Chalotra focuses more on the scripts to better understand her character. Either way, seasons 4 and 5 of The Witcher are sure to introduce fresh dynamics, character development, and on-screen chemistry, which could make up for some of the criticism from earlier seasons.
