Netflix has long held onto its lead in the arena of streaming services and content makers. Aside from relying on regularly licensing content, the streamer caters to a wide audience base by churning out original content spread across a variety of genres and subgenres. In its arsenal of such popular series lies a line of the horror trilogy of the Fear Street franchise, which stands ready to welcome the latest addition to itself with Fear Street: Prom Queen.

The streaming giant announced its line-up and synopsis for the same and here is a breakdown of all of them, starting from the beginning of the tale.

In July 2021, at the height of the pandemic, Netflix doubled down on its binge-watching formula when it released three installments of the Fear Street brand within weeks of one another. Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666, all stemmed from R.L. Stine’s books of the same name. Now, Fear Stree: Prom Queen will borrow from the author’s 1992 novel, The Prom Queen, and expand on the horror-slasher genre.

Netflix took to X and announced its line-up to bring the adaptation to life. India Fowler of The Nevers fame, Suzanna Son from Red Rocket, Fina Strazza, recognized for her role in Paper Girls, David Iacono of Cinnamon, alongside Ella Rubin, Chris Klein, Lili Taylor, and Katherine Waterston will star as the leads. Moreover, Matt Palmer, who also directed Netflix’s Calibre, will helm the directorial and co-write the script along with Donald McLeary.

In terms of plot points, the streamer has offered a gist and a sense of direction as to where it would likely steer the show.

Fear Street: Prom Queen will revolve around the prom season at Shadyside High and will be set in the year 1988. The official synopsis has the It girls going for the crown but the nomination of an outsider has the other girls “mysteriously disappearing”. If previous installments are anything to go by, then Netflix will follow the same ‘chill-thrill’ formula and blend teenage drama with supernatural horror.

The upcoming production has also triggered high anticipation as the previous ones sat in the Top 10 charts for weeks. Furthermore, the streaming giant has also ramped up production of its other acclaimed shows such as Stranger Things, completing three months of its schedule, and fast-tracked the likes of Bridgerton and Hearstopper on their way to releasing soon.
