On the 15th of July in 2016, Stranger Things greeted the streamers of Netflix as the tale of a lost boy whose friends and family are willing to quite literally turn the world upside down in order to find him. The boy in question was Will Byers, the rolling ball that made the show a science fiction fans’ dream. Since then, the Netflix money maker has released four successful seasons with Stranger Things season 5 set to release in the near future. And the upcoming season finally has its main character, and it’s not Eleven.

As doom got a new face every season on the show, and more characters got introduced, the Duffer Brothers used Will Byers as the bridge between its blockbuster seasons. While fans always theorized that his character was more pivotal, it was confirmed only now. The Stranger News posted a series of shots featuring the youngest Byer from every season with the caption “Stranger Things Final Season will be focused on Will Byers.” And just like that, the entire fandom was reduced to a pile of question marks, tears, and contentment.

Many have fought against the popular belief that Eleven is the soul of the show. While that is up for debate, there is no denying that Will Byers, with his connection to the Upside Down, conflicted feelings for Mike, and ultimately a hinge of jealousy towards El, would make for just the perfect character to lead the final season.

If he got the ball rolling successfully in the first episode, then he can definitely do it again.

Will Byers being the confirmed primary focus of Stranger Things Season 5 means that the creators are planning a much bigger sendoff for him. And fans do not know how to feel about it.

Fans react to Stranger Things Season 5 being focused on Will Byers

The youngest of the Byers has presented a new version of himself in every season. The first one found him lost in the upside down and in the second, he was struggling to be human. However, it was in Seasons 3 and 4 when it began to sink in that Will Byers may have come out of the Upside Down, but the Upside Down has not come out of him. At least, not entirely.

With Vecna being revealed as the mastermind behind every monster, it is very likely that when the Demogorgon got into Will, so did he. And while this was general knowledge for some fans, it was news to many.

The news of this Hawkins resident taking the lead in the final season is not on the same level of shocking as most Stranger Things updates are. For instance, the fact that Linda Hamilton has joined the cast.

Some have even made amends with the fact that he might meet the same fate as Eddie Munson. However, their reasoning is not that Will Byers is courageous and would sacrifice himself for his friends. He might be all that, but it is more the fact that his bowl haircut is not exactly battle material. However, it will be a while before fans find out what awaits Will Byers owing to the SAG-AFTRA and the WGA strikes.
