Fans Blast Off ‘The Witcher’ for the Show’s Claim of “best character development”
The Witcher season three finally closed its gate on Henry Cavill. The news of him leaving the cast transformed was only in theory. But now that volume two has been on the air for the last 11 days, the Enola Holmes actor has hung his sword for the show. Moreover, his Australian replacement Liam Hemsworth is already in the works with the filming for season 4. And as people look back on how the recent season fared, the show’s makers might have made some failed attempts. This time, the show’s recent claim of the “best character development” has left the fans divided.
One of the key players in the hunt for Ciri was the Nilfgaardian Empire knight Cahir. He guided the empire’s army of soldiers against Cintra and successfully took Ciri as a prisoner. The latest season showed fans how the knight realized that he was fighting on the wrong side and pledged his guilt and regret to Ciri. Though this did not happen as smoothly as written, the show’s makers failed to do it much justice. In a recent post on the show’s Instagram page, the comments were open for discussion on the claim of the “best character development” for Cahir in the captions. Unfortunately, that did not sit well with the fans.

Contrary to the scene, Cahir’s shift in attitude and his self-realization might have been steady progress. But the character failed to show that on the screen. For the viewers, it was only visible at the pinnacle of Ciri’s and Cahir’s sword fight. In the sixth episode of season three, an angry Ciri took him on her own, and as soon as he nearly tipped over the edge, he confessed his guilt.
This, however, failed to connect to the watchers. And fans found relief in the show’s comment section.

The netizens voiced their dissent with how the show progressed. Terming this character development as “totally unnatural,” the course of the show turned out to be rushed. One netizen argued, “It felt a little rushed in the show, making it hard for the viewers to understand his change of attitude.” Another one was upset over the injustice the character’s arc faced. They said, “dramatic epiphany that is totally unrealistic/unbelievable.” There was an occasional “no Henry = no watching” sentiment owing to the confusing exit of Cavill, but the focus remained on the failed attempt with Cahir.
A follower pointed out how Cahir had “like 3 minutes screen time this whole season.” Besides, this arc was supposed to pave the way for the redemption arc. But the viewers were not happy with how that was executed. One of them connected it to the writing, saying “Abrupt and confusing, not convincing writing. I didn’t see any clue that there was a development change until that moment.”
