After a new trailer, Netflix just dropped a new poster for its live-action One Piece adaptation. The streaming giant is adapting the timelessly popular anime which follows the adventure of Monkey D. Luffy and his straw hat pirates. The streaming giant had, amidst much anticipation, taken over this project, which could very well be its most ambitious one yet. While the initial look at first impressed fans, the recent post has fans not so sure about the live adaptation anymore.

As part of the show’s promotions, Netflix dropped a new poster featuring the new cast, including the likes of Iñaki Godoy and Emily Rudd, among others. However, fans are not particularly happy about this one.

Headed into murky waters, Netflix needs to be wary of fan reactions at every step. The original anime and manga have a vast following. Even so, anime fans in particular are very much connected to the source material and thus do not tolerate any deviations. All of it being said, the new poster has fans calling it straight out “cheap” and “rushed.” Many fans have pointed out the unnatural-looking photos of the cast.

However, even though the poster is currently under intense scrutiny, it is important to note that Netflix is trying its best. Original creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda is a member of the production board. Additionally, the streaming giant, along with Oda, has confirmed that the upcoming show will stay true to the original source it is based on. Recently, Nami actress Emily Rudd, too, shared her dedication to the role and expressed confidence that the streaming giant will follow protocols to ensure the show satisfies all genres of fans.

Fans plead Netflix not to ruin One Piece

Calling it “cheap”, “disappointing” and “unwanted,” fans are blaring out their dissatisfaction over the new poster to Netflix. Many have gone out to call out the recent Hollywood trend of rebooting popular classics only to ruin their originality. Amidst a sea of reactions, fans simply hope that Netflix fixes it before the release of One Piece.

A lot of fans were also quick to point out that the character of Usopp looks “unnatural” and unrealistic.

However, amidst this sea of negativity, a section of fans also expressed their genuine hope at Netflix’s One Piece being actually good.
