Even Henry Cavill Could Not Have Saved ‘The Witcher’ Ending From Netflix’s Meddling
Fans of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel series, The Witcher, were already shaking their heads at the continuous alterations made to the original source material by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. And after the highlight of the show, Henry Cavill turned his back on the fantasy TV series, they became even more disenchanted with The Witcher. Skepticism regarding Liam Hemsworth’s ability to step into the shoes of the legendary actor started to spread like wildfire.
The Witcher fans began to believe that the future of the Netflix drama was far from promising with Cavill’s absence. However, contrary to popular belief, even the 40-year-old could not have saved the series’ ending from going south.

It goes without saying that there will always be a vast gap between a cinematic adaptation and its sourcebooks. While the last season of the Netflix series showcased genuine efforts from the makers to bring it closer to its original source, the chances of them providing a satisfying conclusion are still slim. The ending of the original books came after two epic final battles involving the priestess of Avalon and Vilgefortz. However, Sapkowski also included a denouement towards the end to tie up loose ends.
Such a closure might not be as exciting in the series as it was in the books. The reason is the absence of action; something that The Witcher fans look forward to in the show. This ending would become too anti-climatic for the television program, leading to the disappointment of fans. Nevertheless, the third season of The Witcher concluded with some major cliffhangers, that did ignite some curiosity among the audience.
This season, however, also marked the end of the perfect Geralt of the Netflix series.

Even before fans saw Cavill’s brilliance as the monster hunter, the actor knew he was perfect for the role. The Man of Steel star has always been a fan of The Witcher books and games that made him believe he could pull off the character. His dedication to staying true to the source material became one of the major contributors to his exceptional portrayal of the white wolf.
Cavill also put his own spin on the role. He came up with a tough-sounding voice of Geralt and also choreographed some of his action sequences. Having an extensive background in action movies, Cavill successfully turned the battle scenes into a visual masterpiece. Last but not least, it is almost impossible to overlook his iconic quotes from the series he used to deliver in his unique, gritty voice.
