While fans were wondering what is wrong with Ryan Murphy, the filmmaker has returned with yet another story of 'monsters,' or so they say. Following the success of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Murphy recently dropped his new crime documentary on the Menendez Brothers, titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Although nearly all true crime documentary binge-watchers might be familiar with the case, the signature over-the-top dramatic retelling by the Golden Globe-winning director was something everyone was eager to see.

While this season of Monster has met with mixed reviews for now, the real-life brother, Erik Menendez, has claimed it is also factually inaccurate.

Erik Menendez slams Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story

Erik Menendez recently shared his thoughts on Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story through a social media statement via his wife, Tammi Menendez’s X handle. He stood up for his brother in the message and alleged that the series painted him as “vile and appalling.” Calling out Ryan Murphy, Menendez said he was “naive and inaccurate about the facts.” The 53-year-old also criticized Netflix for its dishonest and inaccurate portrayals, which, by the way, are not just limited to true crime documentaries.

Menendez pointed out that Netflix’s alleged factual distortions have taken the “painful truth” of their lives “several steps backward.” This statement struck a chord with fans on social media, which may not bode well for the show’s run. Nonetheless, even if Murphy’s second season of the Monster anthology ends up with mixed reviews, much like the first part, there is still another installment already on the way.

The third, and most likely final, installment of the Monster series will focus on the chilling story of an infamous American serial killer.

Ryan Murphy's controversial true crime anthology series had already been renewed for a third season just days before the debut of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. And from the looks of it, it is only about to get creepier. The upcoming season will tell the story of Ed Gein, a notorious serial killer who has inspired many fictional characters like Norman Bates, Buffalo Bill, and Leatherface.

Charlie Hunnam, best known for Sons of Anarchy, has been tapped for the role. Nothing else is known about the season yet. However, considering that the season was announced so quickly, Netflix might pace up with the third season to avoid the kind of delays it faced with the Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Now, it is to be seen whether the third season will get any better reviews than the first two.
