The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have affected streamers and Hollywood giants harshly, and it is no secret. The source of revenue for major streamers like Netflix is the content that they offer. While the production of the next seasons of its own massively popular shows like The Witcher and Stranger Things, are yet to see the light of the day, Netflix is investing heavily in licensing already released and produced movies such as Elizabeth Olsen starrer His Three Daughters.

Long associated with Marvel as its Scarlet Witch, Olsen has now crossed realms across to showcase her acting prowess.

Aptly titled, the Azazel Jacobs written and directed movie is a heart-touching drama. Narrating the tales of three sisters who process their father’s imminent passing in their own ways, His Three Daughters is a tense portrait of family dynamics. Featuring Carrie Coon and Natasha Lyonne alongside Elizabeth Olsen, the movie previewed itself at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. Subsequently, the streaming giant took over its rights for $7 million.

Offering a stark departure from action, fantasy, and superhero-saturated cinema, His Three Daughters allows Elizabeth Olsen to shine in a different light. The 34-year-old actress heralds and ushers in the role, offering a poignant overview of her acting prowess. The moving family drama tugs on the audience’s heartstrings. Further, it inevitably takes them along for a moving ride through the character’s lives.

It also came close on the heels of the streaming giant, adding Woman of the Hour and Operation Mincemeat. Clearly, the acquisitions are meant to help cushion the blow from the strikes. The months of discord between the studios and the union are responsible for the lack of original content production.
