Fresh Pince AKA Will Smith may have told a plethora of stories right from the beginning, but today we are going to tell you a tale about Ed Sheeran’s take on his infamous theme song. Exactly 3 decades and 3 years earlier, the now-54-year-old American actor crafted his own future, flipping it upside down- from Top 40 rapper with bankable flair to transcendent star in the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

More than his very first successful drama, it is its prelude that has stayed with us through all these years. Setting the premise of the series as Smith goes on to rap, “…And I’d like to take a minute. Just sit right there. I’ll tell you how I became the Prince of a town called Bel-Air…” The 2-minute 18 seconds song is so versatile that it still feels fresh. Both Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff played with the words and notes so wittily that many artists, including Ed Sheeran have sung their own version of it.

Talking about the Perfect singer, he apparently answered the request of one of the fans back in 2017 when he appeared on Capital FM radio in his native UK ahead of his brand new album, ‘Divide’. As soon as he heard the request on FM, Sheeran took out his guitar and performed a beautiful, acoustic, melodic version of the ’90s track. And as he admitted after singing, he certainly had so much “fun” in doing the same. You can enjoy the rap in Galway Girl singer’s essence above.

One Direction also performed the Will Smith original a few years earlier

The infamous boy band had Don’t Worry Darling’s Harry Styles rap ‘Home to Bel-Air’ back in 2012. In an interview with Nova FM, the RJ apparently asked 1D boys to perform a few lines of the rap they have been doing on a few YouTube channels, and well, the boys won everyone’s heart by going, “Iiiiiin west Philadelphia, born and raised…” The 1-minute 35 seconds video recording has 102K likes. 

Apart from One Direction, Ed Sheeran, and Will Smith, of course, artists like Neil Young have also performed the rap by bringing their own take on it.
