While watching Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer story, viewers took a lot of takeaways. From seeing how a human can be so devoid of humanity and how a little ignorance can play a part in the making of a mass murderer the series gave a lot of eye-opening moments. In the midst of all this was Shari Dahmer. Second wife to Lionel Dahmer and stepmother to Jeffrey Dahmer, Shari Dahmer tried to evoke whatever little semblance of humanity was left in the monster that Jeffrey came to be.  Playing the character of Jeffrey Dahmer’s stepmother was the 80s IT girl, Molly Ringwald.

Everyone even the unofficial stan group aka Stranger Things is obsessed with her. And the Season 4 episode titled Papa which consists of Vickie dressed just like Molly Ringwald is a testament to this fact. After a sickeningly long break, Molly Ringwald is back in showbiz. The plot of the movie follows a red-headed high school sophomore named Samantha in Chicago. Just like any other teenager, Samantha is over the roof for turning sixteen years old as if it were a milestone. However, her sixteenth birthday achieves a feat that even her worst nightmare failed to do. Samantha’s family forgets her sixteenth birthday because of her elder sister’s marriage just the next day. But that isn’t the bane of her existence. A high school senior named Jake is. The movie follows the trials and turbulence Sam has to go through in order to make Jake realize that she is the girl he is meant to be with. A romantic coming-of-age at its finest, Sixteen Candles is available on Netflix.

The Breakfast Club

Still the reigning queen in John Hughes cinematic universe, Molly Ringwald starred in The Breakfast Club in 1985. Contrary to its name, the movie itself does not have anything to do with breakfasts. When you join high school, it goes unsaid that you need to find a place for yourself in a group. Akin to how movies have genres, high schools have groups. The nerds, the athletes, the princesses, the criminals, and the basketcases.

The Breakfast Club follows what happens at all-day detention with one member from each of the versatile cliques present. The flick turned out to be a fan favorite and for all the right reasons. How these five students work past their contrasting personalities to create meaningful bonds will have you sobbing toward the end.

Decades have passed but Molly Ringwald’s love for coming-of-age stories definitely hasn’t. After returning from her long acting hiatus, Molly Ringwald blessed us all and also The Kissing Booth franchise with her presence.  For the unversed, The Kissing Booth is a popular romantic comedy movie. Written and directed by Vince Marcello, the movie follows a high school student Elle. To be more specific, it follows the love triangle between Elle, her best friend, and her best friend’s elder brother.

The movie consists of a handsome cast starring Joey King, Joel Courtney, and Jacob Elordi. Molly Ringwald obviously does not play a confused high school student now that she is in her 50s. Instead, the red-haired beauty offers timeless advice to the kids as Noah’s mother aka wise Mrs. Flynn in the movie. If not for the troubled love affairs, The Kissing Booth on Netflix is worth a watch for Molly Ringwald.
