Did You Know Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Charged a Whopping US$18 Million for a Three-Year Exclusive Podcast Deal With Spotify?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been trying their hands at different things after stepping down as working royals over two years back. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are trying to set their foot in the entertainment industry with their production company, Archewell Audio. They have signed a multimillion-dollar deal with the American streaming giant Netflix to produce shows and docuseries.

Apart from Netflix, Harry and Meghan have also joined hands with Spotify. The Sussexes have signed a three-year exclusive deal with the platform to come up with podcasts. As per a report by Dailyo, Spotify is shelling out a massive amount of US$18 million to acquire the services of the Duke and Duchess. As a part of the deal, Meghan Markle has already come up with her first podcast called Archetypes.

A glance at Archetypes

Archetypes mainly feature Meghan discussing the problems and stigmas surrounding women. The former American actress will chat with some notable female personalities from different fields to highlight the struggles and mindsets of females. The podcast’s first episode saw Serena Williams as the celebrity guest, while Mariah Carey and Mindy Kaling graced the show in further episodes. 

The first two episodes of the podcast were massive successes. Though there was some criticism, the podcast broke records in terms of viewership. Within two days of its release, the show became number one in the United Kingdom USA. Australia, Ireland, and Canada. The Spotify podcast continued its journey to the top for two consecutive weeks. 

Harry and Meghan delayed the podcast to honor the Queen

As of now, three episodes of the show are out. The fourth one will be released on October 04. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle delayed the podcast for over two weeks in the light of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Britain observed a nine-day mourning period for the Queen following the state funeral. 

Harry and Meghan also adhered to it as they paused all their professional and personal commitments. However, Meghan will be now resuming work with her fourth episode featuring comedian Margaret Cho.
