Did Henry Cavill Foreshadow His Big Plans For ‘Warhammer 40000’ Franchise While He Was Still On ‘The Witcher’ In 2021?
A noted nerd within Hollywood circles- Henry Cavill and his love for video games is nothing new to the world. Ever since his casting news in The Witcher was official, the 39-year-old British actor has always been candid about his unprecedented love for science fiction and the video games. And it is not just limited to The Witcher books and games, but extends to Warhammer 40000 as well.
Even when he was a part of the Netflix’s fantasy series and single-handedly guaranteed its success as Geralt of Rivia, Cavill has never been quiet about his love for the tabletop game of the dark futuristic warfare. And while his exit as the white-haired monster butcher and Elven sword bearer was as abrupt as his entry and exit as DCEU’s celebrated Superman; his love for the video game was always constant. And Cavill proved his much hyped nerdiness just right when he shared his keen observation at the witcher set and grandly talked about it in WitcherCon 2021. But was he hinting at something more than just sharing an observation? Perhaps.

Henry Cavill was candid about Warhammer 40000 long before the franchise’s live-action adaptation deal
Apparently back in 2021, while he was talking about the show to John Hurwitz in WitcherCon 2021, some 6 months before The Witcher season 2, Henry Cavill went gaga over his favorite video game. He passionately shared to the host what he had been wanting to share for a little while now. After knowing Hurwitz has some knowledge about the game, he pressed forward what he believed was the elephant in the room. The former Geralt of Rivia confessed that he has been “grinding” his teeth “everyday at the set “because no one would get his reference.”

“That chandelier looks like a Blackstone Fortress. I know that no one on set would have got that, and so I have been biting my tongue about that so I don’t sound too much of a crazy person,” Cavill finally said, pointing at the screen that showed a mediaeval chandelier at The Witcher set. For the unversed, Blackstone Fortress is a humongous alien ship that turns into a dangerous weapon capable of stripping an entire world of its biosphere in the blink of an eye.

Notably, it was not the first time he mentioned the game in his talks. From The Witcher press tours and WitcherCon to The Graham Norton Show and Netflix’s Geeked Week 2022, Henry Cavill has raved about the game and his passion for it. In case you were wondering, he is a full-blooded Warhammer fan, a hobby which he says he began as early as 10 years old. This is why the game’s fandom is glad he is in charge of the franchise.
