Despite ‘Squid Game’s’ Insane Success, Netflix Plans to Make a Major Change With the Latest Challenge Version
Through the Squid Game series, Netflix created a cultural phenomenon that struck a chord among most of its vast audiences. With its gory storytelling, the show made viewers question society’s obsession with wealth and power. However, its impact goes well beyond the screen, having inspired many memes and Halloween costumes. Evidently, the streaming giant played their cards right when it comes to the hit series, which is set to release a spin-off.
So, why would they change anything about the show that worked out more than fine? Still, they may have done exactly that.

Last year, Netflix announced the real-life dystopian-esque challenge it would host titled Squid Game: The Challenge. Fans knew even then that binge-watching the upcoming spin-off would be no less exciting than the original. However, Deadline disclosed that according to insiders, the show will not be released in one go. Instead, the makers might launch it in batches the way Love is Blind and Too Hot to Handle were released.
This means that upon its much-awaited release in November, viewers cannot watch it all in one go like a typical Netflix binge. Earlier, they applied a similar strategy with the latest seasons of Money Heist, Stranger Things, and The Witcher by releasing them in two parts as well. If true, fans may not be happy considering that the OTT mogul itself made ‘binging’ a phenomenon.
Meanwhile, not only the spin-off but the second season of the terror-filled Squid Game is in the works too.

In June, Netflix took fans’ excitement about the resurfacing series by sharing a cast announcement video. Among many other renowned Korean actors, fans were blown away by the inclusion of Park Gyu-Young of It’s Okay to Not Be Okay fame. Besides her, the actor who played the protagonist, Lee Jung Jae, has also returned to play Gi-hun. After all, Jung Jae even won an Emmy for his role in Squid Game.
Currently, the show’s shooting is underway, but it is yet to receive a release date. After the impact that the first season saw, fans’ expectations for the next one will be just as high. Although sinister, Squid Game’s nostalgic depiction of games made for a unique spectacle. Particularly because of the cliffhanger ending of the previous season, the plot reaching its completion is now imminent.
