Despite Spending $2,000,000 More Than ‘Game of Thrones’, Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Live-Action Series Doesn’t Stand Even Close to Most Expensive TV Shows
Creating a show as epic and grand as Game of Thrones takes more than one can imagine. Along with the perfect script and an appealing vision, it also takes proper execution. Therefore, executing the idea with the utmost accuracy takes a lot of money. Netflix’s recently released live-action adaptation of One Piece is thought to be one of the most expensive adaptations. However, looking at other shows, this statement seems a little far-fetched.
The American streaming giant recently aired one of the most-awaited live-action adaptations. Despite spending more money on the creation than the grand show, Game of Thrones, the series is still further on the list of the most expensive shows.

The budget for the Netflix Original attracted a number of fans. The discussion peaked as the series premiered on the platform. According to Netflix’s German site, Netflixwoche, the budget is over $17 million per episode for this adaptation. It is $2 million more than HBO’s Game of Thrones, according to Twitter (now X) user, Ali Ahmed. With this surprisingly high budget for the live-action adaptation, fans are now eager to see what the series has to offer.
It is to be noted that this budget is highly speculative, as there has been no confirmation of the same. However, if it is true, the recently released series is still in no way near the most expensive shows ever made. For instance, the 2010 HBO miniseries The Pacific spent $20 million per episode, which was the most expensive miniseries at the time. Even the prequel to Game of Thrones, House of the Dragons, also spent $20 million per episode.
Additionally, Netflix’s one of the biggest hits, Stranger Things, has spent $30 million per episode. Currently, the fifth and final season of the drama is under production. However, the live-action adaptation of One Piece still did not reach the most extravagant production.
When talking about the most extravagant production, there is still one Amazon Prime series that spent a jaw-dropping amount per episode.

Amazon Prime bagged one of the most famous and highly appreciated franchises on its platform. The franchise is none other than The Lord of the Rings. The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power spent a whopping amount of $58 million per episode with an overall budget of $465 million. This giant budget even surpassed the combined budget ($281 million) of the film series.
Now, if, again, we look at the money spent on Netflix’s live-action adaptation, there is a difference of $41 million. Fans expressed their joy just a day before One Piece’s premiere. And now, they have gotten this astonishing news of how much money the streaming giant has spent.
