Jennifer Lopez has been a superstar for close to three decades now, and that too in multiple arenas. From music, film, TV, fashion, and every tabloid on the planet, Lopez is known for being the undisputed champion in conquering them all. However, lately, whatever formulas the star had been employing for the success of her projects have started to crack. One big example is the 2024 Netflix film, Atlas, which became a monumental failure in her career.

Even with all the criticism for the science fiction, it seems Netflix has rescued the movie from being completely buried in the mud.

Atlas hit the screens on May 24 and soon created a new low for Netflix. The premise of the movie revolves around a genius scientist, played by Jennifer Lopez, who has a deep aversion towards anything AI while still living in a hyper-futuristic world run by AI. The trope-filled mess, despite being hated for its allegedly abysmal and confusing writing, has become the #1 movie on Netflix worldwide. There could be two reasons for this.

Either it is the well-oiled PR and marketing machinery of Netflix, a streaming giant that has seemingly cracked the code for attracting audiences to any movie they aim for. Or it could be that the Brad Peyton-directed movie has managed to fall into the 'so bad that it is good' category, a phenomenon that was also seen with another recent release from Netflix.

One of the most anticipated projects by Disney, mainly because of its cast that had superstars like Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, turned out to be the biggest disappointment in comic book movie history. Madame Web barely scraped past $100 million at the box office and left with an 11% rating following its theatrical run. However, the game changed when Netflix decided to bring the box-office bomb under its umbrella.

Madame Web, within just a day of arriving on Netflix, found a sweet spot in its Top 10 list And just like that, the criticisms of the project began to evolve into the realization that the movie was not as bad as critics made it out to be. And who knows, after Jennifer Lopez's Atlas hit #1 on Netflix, fans might give the movie a second look and discover it is better than they remembered.
