Despite Having Shawn Levy’s Support, Aria Mia Relied a Lot on This One Netflix Consultant for ‘All the Light We Cannot See’
In All the Light We Cannot See, Shawn Levy showcased his creativity by blending new and experienced actors. The Canadian director put together the newcomer, Aria Mia Loberti, with the brilliant actor Mark Ruffalo in the Netflix mini-series. The director has been vocal about how beautifully and effortlessly Loberti merged with the cast and crew. He just had to shape Loberti’s acting skills and guide her in the right direction.
Apart from the Deadpool director’s unwavering faith and support for Loberti, there was one more person who helped the new actress.

Loberti’s character, Marie-Laure LeBlanc, in the 4-part series, is partially blind. With the help of the Free Guy director, she got the hang of acting. However, Joe Strechay, a Netflix consultant, also deserves credit alongside the 55-year-old director. As CBS Sunday Morning highlighted, Strechay is an associate producer and a consultant at Netflix. While Loberti used her experiences as a bridge to her character, it was Strechay who helped her do it as accurately as possible.
Joe Strechay lost his eyesight completely at the young age of 19. He ensures that they capture the portrayal of the visually impaired with utmost accuracy and sensitive honesty, guided by his special connection. Speaking to the reporting house, Strechay said he suggested one scene where the character interacting with Marie would just nod to say yes. However, because of her low vision, she could not see that. So, they would have to respond to let her know.
Putting in these minor details about a character who has partial sight makes the scene more sensitive and effective. With the help of Strechay, the show could introduce these sensitivities, ultimately elevating Loberti’s on-screen character. Embracing this new experience, the young actress expressed her feelings about her involvement in All the Light We Cannot See.
Aria Mia Loberti shared her feelings overwhelmingly
During the conversation with CBS Sunday Morning, Loberti revealed it was an unbelievable experience for her. While portraying Marie-Laure LeBlanc, she didn’t feel like it was a choreography, since she had a strong connection with her character. With the help of Joe Strechay, the show could deeply explore and replicate the sensitivity and authenticity of Loberti’s character. However, it all started way before that.
