David Harbour Tried to Steal the ‘Stranger Things’ Prop That Connects It to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ‘Conan the Barbarian’
The Stranger Things cast and creators take 90s cinema as its gospel. This has played out splendidly for the Netflix original as the references and parallels it draws with the Golden Age of Hollywood garner almost the same amount of attention as an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie would back then. And the Duffer Brothers are not deprived of this knowledge as testified by Season 4, where a climax scene featuring David Harbour boasted of a connection to Conan the Barbarian. The moment was one of the highlights of not just the entire show but, as per a recent statement, also Harbour’s entire life.
The actor was so thrilled to see an original prop from one of the most celebrated franchises that he would go to lengths outside the safe parameter of law to attain it.

In one of its most pivotal moments, Stranger Things Season 4 features David Harbour fighting the Demogorgons with the very Atlantean sword from Conan the Barbarian. Given how he it was the very sword that the Austrian Oak, Arnold Schwarzenegger held in 1992, it was not short of a Koh-i-Noor on the Stranger Things set. And so Harbour did the first thing that a star worth $7 Million would do when encountered with something precious: steal it. “I tried to steal it,” Harbour confessed in an interview with BBC Radio 1.
Harbour may be a Marvel superhero, but Stranger Things is a show that costs $30 million per episode for Netflix, and therefore stealing one of its precious props was not a piece of cake. And while he was caught trying to steal it, the aftermath was far from a dungeon for the actor.
The Atlantean sword was later sent to him by the Stranger Things prop team. But unfortunately, David Harbour’s suffering in trying to acquire the sword did not end there.

It seems like the plot twists do not stop at the Stranger Things set and carry over to the lives of the actors involved. This could not be truer for David Harbour, who was just hatching a plan to show off the gorgeous Atlantean sword from Conan the Barbarian, only to realize that his step-daughter had bet him to it.
In the aforementioned interview with BBC Radio 1, Harbour looks visibly frustrated as he says, “She calls it her sword, but that is my sword!” As the delay of Stranger Things Season 5 causes unrest, at least, David Harbour sleeps well, knowing that the Father’s Sword from Conan the Barbarian, the one that can even slash Demogorgons, is hanging somewhere in his home.
