David Harbour has played police chief Jim Hopper ever since the pilot episode of Netflix’s Stranger Things. Over the years, he has practically watched the teenage cast grow up on set- with some even getting married- who have collectively come to be known as ‘the Stranger Things kids.’ After spending such a long stretch of time with them, almost a decade to be exact, it is only natural that he would crave a bit of adult company- and Comic-Con, amid the lengthy season 5 filming, was just the break he needed. 

Harbour recently shared how relieved he felt after getting away from the kids, and how he is always on the lookout for chances like that. 

David Harbour recently joined Josh Horowitz at New York Comic Con to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. As soon as Harbour hit the stage, Horowitz let the audience in on the fact that the 49-year-old actor was the first to join the party, joking that all he wanted was to "sneak away from those pesky kids on Stranger Things." But the Black Widow actor quickly pointed out that the Stranger Things cast is not exactly 'kids' anymore. "The kids from Stranger Things are now like 35," Harbour joked. 

Horowitz also shared that the first time he crossed paths with the Comic-Con "veteran" David Harbour was years ago at San Diego Comic-Con during the promotion of one of the early seasons of Stranger Things. Harbour went on to chat about his various projects, including Thunderbolts* and season 5 of the Duffer Brothers' creation, while also giving the audience an update on the show's final season.

Harbour also revealed that filming the finale of Stranger Things fifth season felt quite different from any other episodes previously. 

David Harbour, who has a backstage pass to the action, admitted that sometimes he gets really "mad" when certain episodes do not hit the mark in his eyes. But when it came to the finale of Stranger Things season 5, he did not feel that way at all. In fact, he told the crowd that the finale of Stranger Things 5 is the "best episode they’ve ever done.' He also shared a glimpse into his table read for the final season.

Harbour revealed that the upcoming season’s finale, which will tie everything together, is set to be even more emotionally gut-wrenching than his character’s fake death in season three. “When we were reading it, just us reading it, about halfway through people started crying,” he recalled. With such a major hint, it is probably wise for fans to start stocking up on tissues for Stranger Things this time around.
