His performance was so powerful and terrifying that he made his costars afraid of him. Remember how Millie Bobby Brown cried out seeing him with prosthetics and makeup for the first time? His character, Vecna, was certainly the most heinous monster that fans came across in all the seasons of the show.

The way he cruelly preyed on teenagers using their worst memories as his weapon was spine chilling. And the credit of making this antagonist a nightmare goes to the actor who used some murderous methods to get into the character.

Stranger Things star owned Vecna in the most authentic way possible

After the release of season 4, Jamie Campbell Bower’s cup was brimming with qeuestions by media about how nailed down the character down to the last morsel. And he did not sugarcoat the process of his mental transformation into this brutal killer. The Twilight star revealed he used to take pictures of his character’s victims in the show and stare at them among other things.” I would cross their eyes out and put them up on my wall,” Bower told People

This way, he could create an image in his mind of how Vecna attacks characters and crushes them into nothing. The 34-year-old wanted to feel the same emotion that fuels Vecna’s powers.

So he used this method to play the lethal villain and understand the workings of his mind and thoughts. In fact, he used all the tactics of serial killers to truly bring the Vecna to life but this came at a big price for him.

Jamie Campbell Bower isolated himself

In the same interview, the London native pointed out that resentment was the driving force of Vecna. He always felt like an outcast and that society has done injustice to him in every way. So, during the long hours of makeup, he meditated on Vecna’s disturbed state of mind.

Also, he used to wander around Atlanta at two in the morning, and isolated in a dark room to get into his headspace. This is how the actor pushed himself to extremes to channel the monster that sent chills down the spines of viewers. With Stranger Things Season 5 set to release next year, fans wonder just how extreme both Vecna and Jamie Campbell Bower’s techniques will get this time.
