“Conflict is the nature of drama”, Says the Director of Sweet Magnolias, Norman Buckley While Sharing Updates on Season 3

After the tough ride of Sweet Magnolias season 2, Serenity town is all shaken up. Sweet Magnolias is always been a heart-warming show, which is far away from all the roughness in the world. You can enjoy the show with your family as well. But after a cliff-hanging ending in Season 2, fans are worried about what will happen in the future of three best friends Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue. Sweet Magnolias season 3 might have more drama in store for the women, and fans have several questions about the same. Recently, the Netflix show’s director and executive producer Norman Buckley sat down with Lone Star Plate podcast to answer some of these burning fan questions. Let’s find out what Buckley has for us.

Lone Star Plate and Sweet Magnolias season 3 updates

On March 4th, 2022 Lone Star Plate uploaded a video on its YouTube channel with the director and executive producer of Sweet Magnolias, Norman Buckley. During the interview, Buckley answered burning fan questions. These questions ranged from season 3 release to a possibility of a prequel series.

When is the Sweet Magnolias season 3 coming on Netflix?

Norman shares that based on the success of Season 2, the crew and cast of the show are quite positive that Netflix will order another season of Sweet Magnolias. He is hoping that Netflix will give a green light soon so that they can plan the filming and production accordingly in summer or spring. That clears one thing for us: No Sweet Magnolias for 2022 summer.

Can Sweet Magnolias season 3 have more episodes?

Each season of the show has had ten episodes. However, fans want more of the show and its characters. Therefore, one of the fans asked if there was any chance of increase in the number of episodes. Unfortunately, the answer to that question is no. Norman Buckley explains that if the situation were in his hands, he would love to do that. However, Netflix usually decides these things when renewing or commissioning a show.

Will Sweet Magnolias season 3 have a more likable Dana Sue?

As per Norman, Dana Sue is a strong character who has struggled to be a single mother. He says, “conflict is the nature of drama. If everybody was nice and if all relationships are moving smoothly and if everything is happening as one hopes, then there would be no drama and no reason to watch the television show.”

He further shares how they constantly try to flesh out different characters with their backstories each season. And while he find Dana Sue perfect as she is, there is a possibility for her character to become more likable in future as we know more about her.

Will there ever be a prequel to Sweet Magnolias?

The director can’t confirm anything right at this moment. They frequently throw the flashbacks in the middle of the show so that the audience can imagine the rest of their childhoods. However, he did admit that the idea is not entirely implausible.

Why did Bill become Issac’s father?

One of the major reveals of season 2 of Sweet Magnolias was that Bill is Issac’s father. Thus, fans wondered why creators decided that had to happen. Norman Buckley, however, can’t share the exact thinking process behind this decision. As he rightly points out he executes the show and an entire team of writers do the writing separately. However, he did know that Bill was Issac’s father before the actors knew.

Well, Buckley seems to have answered a lot of questions we’ve had since season 2 started streaming on Netflix. Do you have anymore questions for the director? Let us know in the comments.
