Squid Game is and has been a global Netflix phenomenon for quite some time now. This South Korean thriller series maintained its position on top of Netflix’s most trending list in over 90 countries for over a week after its release. With its one-of-a-kind plot, marvelous direction, and, obviously, Sae-byeok, the series is definitely making a mark.
Fans and media houses have been playing their part too. There’s a high chance you’ve come across a meme or two related to the series. Recently, Netflix posted a picture of a hilariously evil billboard dictating a “PSA.”
Little Squid Game context before the meme
The Red Light was a reference to the first game of the series – Green Light, Red Light. The game was a rather brutal version of the Korean children’s game with the same name.
Players are supposed to run towards the finish line when the “light” is “green” and stop when it is “red”. Any player that moves even an inch during the “red light” is eliminated. Sounds fair enough, right? Well, in Squid Game universe, eliminated equates killed.
