Netflix‘s The Witcher’s season 2 is right around the corner. While the first season of the show was a little confusing for many, owing to the Dunkirk-like storytelling of the show; We expect the second season to be much more engaging and straightforward. But there are still some people who have doubts about the abilities of our protagonist. Can the Witcher do this? Is the Witcher unable to perform this task? We will answer a few such questions as we dive into the Witcher Universe.

The Netflix Original is based on a fantasy novel series of the same name, written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. It follows the adventures of a mutant monster-hunter, as he moves throughout the Continent before he is bound to protect a young princess named Ciri. Henry Cavill plays the role of Geralt of Rivia, one of the strongest and most famous witchers of the world. Well, with no further ado, let’s dive right into the popular questions about witchers.

To answer this, we must look into the source material of the show. In the books, no witcher has ever died of old age. According to the books, witchers age at a very slow pace. Vesemir, the oldest witcher in the books, is estimated to be around 300-350 years old. It is believed that a witcher can die a natural death when he gets old enough, but sadly, no witcher has even lived that long. Almost all the witchers die in a fight, at the hands of a monster they were supposed to kill.

Do witchers have feelings?

During their training period, witchers are “stripped of their emotions” as they are to become killers. However, in the books and the games, we have seen Geralt feeling some dampened and suppressed emotions, often blurry.

In the series as well, we can clearly see Geralt feeling emotions, including sadness, grief, and even care for Jaskier and Ciri. So yes, witchers have feelings, but they are very blurry and suppressed.

Can the Witcher use magic?

While they do not train them to be magicians like mages and witches, witchers can perform minor magic via casting signs. “Signs” are combat-focused magic spells that require little time to be activated. They activate as soon as a witcher casts them. We have seen Geralt use one of these signs in the show a lot, which is Aard. Aard basically produces a telekinetic wave that pushes everything away from the person who cast it.

Can witchers have children?

The answer is, No. They cannot have children because their blood becomes sterile when they go through the long process of becoming a witcher. Hence, witchers adopt young boys and train them as witchers at one of the witcher schools.

Can a witcher turn into a werewolf?

One cannot turn into a monster if he is already one. Witchers already go through a lot of mutations in order to become what they are, which is clearly not human. So the answer is: no, they cannot turn into a werewolf.
