Bruce Greenwood Replaces Frank Langella in Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’
The upcoming Mike Flanagan horror show, The Fall of The House of Usher is more awaited than any of his other works—Partly because of his newfound Netflix fame and mainly because of his content. After the overwhelming success of Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game, Hush, and Haunting of the Hill House, The Fall of The House of Usher is bound to set another benchmark for Flanagan.
The eight-part series is based on a short story by the period writer Edgar Allen Poe. Intrepid Pictures is producing the show, the same house behind all of Mike’s movies and shows. The show is set in the late 70s. Despite being in mid-production, the upcoming Netflix show saw a cast replacement recently.

Bruce Greenwood, known to have acted in both Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game, has now been cast as Roderick Usher. Frank Langella, known for his role as Richard Nixon, was the first choice for Flanagan. However, sexual misconduct accusations changed things for the actor and Flanagan. An investigation followed the accusations and its findings led to the removal of the 84-year-old actor from the show. After Frank, Greenwood was a natural choice for Flanagan because of their history.

The Fall of the House of Usher follows Roderick Usher, who is the childhood friend that the narrator of the show has come to meet. Upon meeting him, not much seems weird, until Roderick shows him his sister Madeleine’s dead body kept neatly in a vault. Roderick just can’t seem to convince his friend that his sister in the vault is not dead. Of course, she appears scarily later on, with her blood-stained clothes, only to sink the whole house into a lake!
Edgar Allen Poe’s books have a deep essence of family life, gut-wrenching gory details, themes of extreme isolation and not to mention, the spirit entities. Poe is from the 1800s, yet is centrally remembered even today for his short stories and poetry. Especially, his horror and mystery stories. He came to be known as the inventor of the detective fiction genre.
