1899
Back in 2022, 1899 premiered on Netflix, presenting a very thrilling journey with European immigrants as they aboard a mysterious steamship bound for New York. Despite its interesting plot and initial success, two months into the premiere, the show was canceled by Netflix. Reports claim that the decision was made on the grounds of the high cost of production of the show and a low completion rate.
The Chair
Back in 2021, the Netflix series The Chair, a sharp comedy-drama where Sandra Oh portrays Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, the first woman of color to lead an English department in a prestigious university, was able to garner very positive reviews without resorting to any cliché. Even though the show was quite successful, it was canceled after only one season in 2023, leaving fans with a need to want more of its richly developed characters and themes.
Lockwood & Co.
Lockwood & Co. was one of the standouts on Netflix at the beginning of 2023, with its supernatural mysteries and lovable characters. Although this series had such a great first run, it got canceled after just one season leaving fans disappointed. The cancellation stemmed from a fall in the view count from its initial episodes which led Netflix to decide that this series does not meet the benchmark for renewing.
Mindhunter
Mindhunter went deep into the minds of serial killers, giving a chilling look at the origins of criminal profiling. Despite its loyal fanbase, the series was abruptly halted after two seasons. Director David Fincher offered a detailed explanation as to the cancellation of season 3 of Mindhunter through an interview given to Première Magazine, whose translation was shared by The Fincher Analyst on X.
He reportedly pointed out that Netflix suggested either the budget be reduced or the appeal of the show be broadened, but Fincher and the creative team declined, which brought the series to an end.
