‘Bridgerton’s Success on Netflix Has Been a Boon for the UK Economy
Bridgerton is now a cultural phenomenon with its diverse casting and peppy, anachronistic style. The Netflix original found a place in everyone’s hearts right from the get-go. From putting a fresh perspective on historical romance to sparking important discourse around race and equality, the Regency-era series did more than just garner massive viewership. And now, it seems, the show has had a seismic impact on the UK economy as well.
Recently, the producer of the popular series took a step in light of Bridgerton's impact in the UK since its launch in December 2020.

Bridgerton premiered the final half of its third season on Thursday. But it has been boosting the UK’s economy ever since its first season. The streaming giant Netflix stated that the show has supported 5,000 local businesses over the past five years, adding £275 million to the economy. After seeing this “huge economic contribution,” Shondaland chief executive Shonda Rhimes decided to open the market for trading at the London Stock Exchange on Friday, as she announced in a statement.
The show has increased visits to set areas as well, including Bath and Bristol. The chief executive of London Stock Exchange plc, Julia Hoggett has also expressed her excitement “to celebrate the significant economic and cultural impact.” This news came right after the Bridgerton showrunner shared a saddening update for all the fans of the period drama.
Now that Bridgerton Season 3 is in the rearview mirror, all eyes are on the next chapter. However, fans should not expect it any sooner.

Jess Brownell recently unveiled a rough timeline for when Season 4 will be ready for fans. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at Wednesday night’s UK premiere of Bridgerton Season 3, Part Two, Brownell shared the makers' intent to “speed up” the fourth installment’s production. However, it is still unlikely to grace the small screens for another two years.
Brownell explained how the filming alone takes about eight months. Then comes the lengthy post-production process, which could push the release to 2026. Nonetheless, Season 4 is going to be Brownell’s “best work” so far, as she teased in the interview. If done right, this could further multiply Bridgerton's impact in the UK.
