Harkening on Netflix’s penchant for period pieces, Bridgerton came in as a profound contender for fan favoritism and since then, has stayed true to its likening. As the drama readies itself for a third installment, due on May 16 for release, what this season will bring to the plate of its enthusiasts has been keeping fans on their toes. Hence, to top off the anticipation with a slight nudge, the producer of the show divulged the characters of her preference just before the third season’s release.

The two characters, once inseparable, kept fans on a hook with their equations shifting in the second season. Hence, by enlisting them, the attention beams twice as much regarding their fate in the third. 

During a recent interview for a Variety Power of Women cover story, the executive producers, Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers sat with the publication to talk about Bridgerton’s third season, which serves as the first deviation from the order of the books. Beers revealed that the two characters she loves from the show are Penelope Featherington, portrayed by Nicola Coughlan, and Eloise Bridgerton, depicted by Claudia Jessie. 

Beers stressed that what carries weight for her is the relationship that they both share. Teasing the third season in bits and pieces, the producer admitted that the third season will include a layered narrative of their bond that has been met with confrontations and betrayal in the last season. Hence, fans too will have a scope to delve deep into characters they have not had a chance to get familiar with before this, like Eloise and her relationship with Penelope.

For producers, Penelope’s alliance with Eloise could be one of the highlights of this upcoming installment, and for fans, it is no exception, since, in the second season, their crossroads led fans onto a cliffhanger. 

As the curtain fell on Bridgerton season 2, Penelope’s Lady Whistledown persona bore revelation. However, one strand that left fans in tension was the elicited rift between the two friends- Penelope and Eloise as the latter was grappling with the blow on the verge of severing ties. Previously, an image from the two-part third season’s set was revealed that highlighted the complications of their bond.

Jess Brownell shared with Variety last month how Penelope and Eloise’s friendship is much like a “secondary love story of the season”. Hence, their breakup presents an opportunity for growth in their bond, pushing them beyond the haven of their enduring friendship. As a result, fans on the lookout for Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton’s affair to take full bloom also need to hold their horses for the former’s alliance with Eloise and where their challenges take them.
