The second and final part of Bridgerton Season 3 debuted on Netflix on Thursday, and the chemistry between the two leads only intensified as the season progressed. Recently, during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Nicola Coughlan revealed that it was, in fact, the prop from the first love-making scene between Penelope and Colin in Part Two- the “chaise longue” that broke. The 37-year-old then went on to explain how the catastrophe occurred.
Coughlan and Luke Newton share a “good working relationship” and “communicate with one another” between scenes. It was during the filming of that particular scene when both actors felt they had nailed (no pun intended) the perfect shot, only to hear a loud “dun-dun” as the furniture collapsed. However, apart from the motive of creating sizzling chemistry on screen, the intimate scenes signified to Coughlan on a personal level.
Through these scenes, Nicola Coughlan wanted to put an important message out there and silence all the haters in a single stroke.

During promotions for the latest season of Bridgerton, Nicola Coughlan spoke candidly in an interview with the Los Angeles Times about the body shaming she has faced throughout her life. The actress disclosed that she deliberately pushed for certain scenes in the show, including one where she fully reveals herself, to serve “the biggest f**k you to all the conversation” surrounding her body.
While her request for an alternate cut of episodes without these scenes did not materialize, the showrunners did listen to her request to include these empowering moments. This decision turned out to be a memory she would forever cherish, even if the memory had some bits of furniture-breaking shenanigans.
