The directors got on stage to thank each other and everyone around. While appreciating the cast and crew, they credited their parents and wives for supporting them on the journey.

“Animation is cinema,” said an emotional del Toro. He wants his love for the animation to continue as a form of storytelling and asked for help to keep continuing with the art form. Whereas Gustafson joked about how he is thankful to the other director, even for giving him a drinking problem.

The dark fantasy musical was already making rounds for being a big potential win, considering its critical and box office success. While being based on Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio, the execution of the movie in the modern day just brought out the intensity of the story. The movie cost $35 million to make and made approximately $108,967 in profits.

The story is set in Italy during the dark times of Word War II when a carpenter named Geppetto loses his child. Completely lost in the pain of loss, he carves a boy out of wood in remembrance of his son. But the toy soon comes alive in Pinocchio’s spirit.
