Will Smith earned some of his most prestigious accolades from roles where he portrayed a father on screens. The actor had also been expressive about his family in the public eye since his rookie days. Therefore, the audience often found themselves asking what kind of parent was Will Smith to his kids? Given how they have kept out of problems, one can assume he did a good job. However, it did not come without its difficulties.

In 2017, Will Smith was reconnecting with his musical roots as he got back on stage with Jazzy Jeff. However, the icon talked about he often finds it hard to connect with his kids.

The Oscar-winning actor has blessed us with some of the most memorable roles in cinema. Be it as Agent J in Men in Black, or the twisted scientist from I Am Legend, the actor defined “cool.” However, the superstar treatment of fans falling at his feet did not carry on to his household. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2017, the actor revealed how his kids did not listen to him. Thankfully, it was not his advice that they weren’t listening to, but only his music. “My kids don’t really listen [to my music] a lot,” Smith said. He further added, “Everybody else in the world wants to hear what I say, except my kids.”

Smith may have been a tad bit hurt by his kids not vibing to his music because no matter how busy he gets with acting, the actor and his fans always hold on to his rap days as the Fresh Prince. Smith is the father of three children, Trey, Jaden, and Willow Smith, and as he spoke about how uninterested they are in his work, one realized that no matter how great of a star he becomes at the end of the day he faces the same problems that most fathers do.

Will Smith’s kids, despite not paying much attention to their father’s music, have emerged as creators themselves. Especially Willow Smith, who made the bop ‘Whip My Hair’ when she was only ten years old.

The song is now platinum certified. However, much like her father, the younger Smith found her way into acting and now rarely dabbles in tunes. Her brother Jade Smith has also followed a career path with consists of both singing and acting, but is currently excelling as a fashionista.
