Back When ‘Stranger Things’ Actor Jamie Campbell Bower Almost Got Cast For ‘Twilight’s’ Lead but Settled For This Role
Most of us cannot imagine Twilight without the menacing poker-face gaze of Robert Pattinson. The on-screen Edward Cullen set a league apart for vampires and their portrayal in modern cinema. But this role wasn’t just tested on Pattinson. Among many, the author of the book Stephenie Meyer’s dream choice was none other than The Witcher actor Henry Cavill. But thinking longer about the production process made her realize that the Superman star was too old to play Cullen. And it’s not just him that the makers wanted to rope in. The movie franchise called in the famous Stranger Things antagonist Jamie Campbell Bower.
The actor got candid in a podcast and revealed how he almost got a chance at the lead role in Twilight. Interesting series of events conspired before the Twilight cast was decided and this is how he landed this other role.

In a conversation with Josh Horowitz on his podcast Happy, Sad and Confused 11 months ago, the Camelot actor talked about his call for the audition for the Twilight movies. The Twilight makers were quite excited to see Jamie’s “dedication” being brought to the table. Alas, his busy schedule blocked his shot. But they later roped him in for the role of Caius in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. In another interview with MTV News in 2009, the Harry Potter actor confessed to enjoying the freedom of bringing Caius to life. Moreover, he believed that things worked out for the better and Pattison pulled off the character best.
Bower was already keeping busy with Tim Burton’s movie The Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, recalling how his life was “crazy and hectic” during that time. The Cullen role turned out to be one of those things not written in his fate. Nevertheless, the actor had a pleasant time on set doing multiple takes. All of them were laced with different accents and styles. He added, “It was good fun.”
Following his Caius role discussions, the actor once candidly shared his tedious “getting ready” for the famed antagonist.

The villain who was also famously called ‘001’ became one of the most thrilling villains in the Eleven universe. But this bone-chilling portrayal of Vecna had mental repercussions on the 34-year-old actor. He once recalled on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon how his voice “was 90% real.” This wasn’t the only laborious part. The actor went to lengths with his patience for getting ready in his costume.
He would arrive early in the morning, even before the sun rose. Following a grueling eight hours, the actor would turn on his antagonist’s voice and demeanor.
