Henry Cavill brought the caring and empathic side of the character on the screen other than the rational thinker who is always surrounded by big detective cases. However, this unique arc stirred controversy and Arthur Conan Doyle’s estate sued Netflix. The lawsuit claimed a breach of copyright because the mystery film was for presenting him with a new sensitive light.

Whether it’s feelings, personality, or emotions, they are not something that can be contained in a box. “Copyright law does not allow the ownership of generic concepts like warmth, kindness, empathy, or respect, even as expressed by a public domain character–which, of course, belongs to the public, not the plaintiff,” they said.
