The portrayal of Geralt by Henry Cavill in The Witcher has set a benchmark so high that matching the sophistication he brought to the character would be an incredibly challenging task for Liam Hemsworth. Although he has long handed over his sword, Cavill will forever be the most iconic Geralt in The Witcher‘s history. The credit for this goes to his mastery in immersing himself entirely in the character, to the extent that it was difficult to distinguish between Cavill and Geralt. 

It was also Cavill’s battle-worn armored suit that gave him the authentic appearance of a true monster hunter. Anya Chalotra, who played Yennefer in the fantasy drama TV series, once revealed how Cavill’s Geralt costume puzzled one of his closest friends.

Any ardent fan of Henry Cavill would know that he is a private person and spends most of his leisure time playing video games. However, he does have a very dear friend who accompanies him to interviews, sets, and even to the gym. It is his pet dog, Kal, who Cavill considers being his closest friend. During a 2022 interview with Alexandra Heilbron, Chalotra revealed that Kal “struggled” to recognize Cavill when he was in his Geralt Costume. 

Chalotra rationalized it by pointing out the fact that Henry Cavill’s “energy and aura” exudes the same as that of Geralt’s. This was particularly why he fit “so beautifully into the part”. And this might have also been the reason why Cavill was so obsessed with Geralt’s costume, so much so that “he made breakfast in it and he would sleep in it”, as revealed by showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. Even after the shoot, Cavill was not ready to bid farewell to his costume.

In one of the interviews, Cavill revealed taking home Geralt’s costume. He also shared whether he wears the costume in his home or not!

Henry Cavill had a fierce determination to land the part of Geralt in Lauren Schmidt Hissrich’s show. Being a fan of the games and the novels, Cavill went all out to avoid losing the part in the show, even annoying the showrunner. His connection to his character was so deep that he took Geralt’s costume home to display. However, the actor did not frolic about in his yard wearing the costume because “It’s not so easy to put on,” he shared with NME. 

In the same interview, Henry Cavill also shared insights into the time it took to get into the outfit and the whole look of Geralt in a 2019 interview. As per the actor, “it took two hours of hair and makeup every day” to finish Geralt’s look. Therefore, Kal has no reason to worry about his friend’s costume, as it is “just sitting at home looking cool”.
