In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Albert Kim, who is creating the live-action adaptation for Netflix, revealed what viewers can expect from it. While stressing that it will be their “version” of Avatar: The Last Airbender, he also clarified that it will not stray too much from the source material of the 2005 Nickelodeon series. However, its eight-episode-long first season will feature some small changes

During the interview, another thing that Kim shed light on was the obstacles he faced during its creation. When the people who had originally created the show, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, walked away from Netflix’s adaptation in 2020, Kim was left feeling understandably “intimidated”. Well, something similar happened during One Piece’s making too. Eiichiro Oda, the mastermind behind One Piece had given its makers an equally hard time

Still, unlike Avatar: The Last Airbender, One Piece’s creator did not abandon the project. However, for Kim, the daunting task was made all the more challenging when he was left alone to carry the project to completion midway. So, fans will have to wait till 22nd February to see whether the show manages to soar despite this interruption or not.
