When Netflix released the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the world was captivated by the adventures of 12-year-old Aang. Despite being a live-action adaptation, the series delved into significant themes rarely explored in youth entertainment true to its parent sources, such as war, imperialism, totalitarianism, and free choice. While the original Avatar emphasized the power of benders, the Netflix remake is planning a groundbreaking casting choice for the future that defies traditional norms and expectations.

This unique casting comes with specific requirements and is planned for a character in the second season.

Netflix recently announced a casting call for the second season of the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, specifically for the fan-favorite character, the sassy blind earthbender Toph. Jenny Jue of Downtown Casting has taken over casting duties from Colloff/Nicolo Casting for the upcoming season. Jue posted the casting call flier for Toph on her Instagram, encouraging actors who are blind or have low vision to audition.

According to the flier, the character should be a blind, female, Asian teenager with a confident, and unfiltered personality. Dance and martial arts experience is a plus. These traits were highlighted in a short film directed by a stunt member of the Netflix crew showcasing Toph's skills that also went viral last year. Interestingly, Jenny Jue also cast the voice of adult Toph for the upcoming Avatar Studio feature film about Avatar Aang, which went to Donnie Quan.
