Avatar: The Last Airbender Characters, Cast And More Details Of The Live-Action

While Netflix announced Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action in September 2018, but the production has only just begun. Netflix has cast new actors to play Avatar: The Last Airbender characters.

The animated series follows Aang and his friends across a world ravaged by Fire Nation’s war as they fight to bring stability to the world. The Nickelodeon cartoon premiered in 2005 had three seasons and a sequel titled “Avatar: The Legend of Korra”. Before you get all excited about another live-action series, it is important to understand the characters.

The 12-year-old Aang was the last living Airbender after the Hundred Year War. Aang had a mastery over all the four bending arts, and could even use energybending, a rare feat for anyone in the world. Aang takes up the task of ending the war against the Fire Nation.

Katara and Sokka are the siblings who protect Aang when he travels around the world mastering other bending styles. The siblings have a personal vendetta against Fire Nation as the war takes away both of their parents. While their father leaves to fight the Hundred Year War, their mother dies during one of the Fire Nation’s raids.

In addition, Katara later becomes Aang’s life partner, and they have a beautiful family. Katara is also present in “Avatar: The Legend of Korra”, where she again trains the next Airbender to hone her waterbending skills. Post the war against Fire Nation, the people recognized Sokka as a strategist and a master swordsman.

Zuko is the prince of Fire Nation and the son of Fire Lord Ozai. Initially starts out as an antagonist but eventually, the character development makes us fall for him. The firebender was a fierce warrior who went against his father’s wishes and joined Aang’s group to overthrow Ozai.

Netflix recently made public a bunch of new castings who have previously acted in other Netflix originals.

  • Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, who has featured in “Kim’s Convenience” will play Uncle Iroh
  • Lim Kay Siu will play Gyatso
  • Ken Leung will play Commander Zhao

Netflix has already announced the lead cast who will portray the Avatar: The Last Airbender characters.

  • Gordon Cormier will play Aang
  • Kiawentiio Tarbell will play Katara
  • Ian Ousley will play Sokka
  • Dallas Liu will play Zuko
  • Daniel Dae Kim will play Fire Lord Ozai

Albert Kim is the showrunner and executive producer along with Lindsey Liberatore, Dan Lin, and Michael Goi. Roseanne Liang, Jabbar Raisani, Jet Wilkinson, and Goi will be the directors for the show.

Netflix will try a new type of production for this live-action series wherein it will use a 23000 square foot stage for filming. The stage has 3000 LED lights and is 28 feet high and 84 feet wide, and Pixomondo Virtual production will operate it. Netflix has used this virtual production technology in “The Midnight Sky”.
