In the midst of witnessing a cinematic triumph sown in with talented performers, masterfully crafted creatures, and soundtracks penned down with the last ink, it is quite easy to forget that the Rumpelstiltskin churning straw into gold is actually the writer. This is especially true in the case of a science fiction drama like Stranger Things, where the visuals and the amplification of them through handpicked music become the hero.

The Duffer Brothers have not been denied their credit as they stand shoulder to shoulder with the actors on any stage that welcomes Stranger Things. However, as their fellow writers come to negotiate with the WGA, they have decided to delay season 5 in a show of support. But before fans rip their hair out in what has been a more than year-long wait, Maya Hawke has come to the rescue.

That fans are more concerned about when Stranger Things season 5 is going to air than the writer’s strike is a testament to our flaws. This is why the Duffer brothers deemed it the need of the hour to delay the production. “Writing does not stop when filming begins,” their note said on Twitter. This seems like a direct call out to the filming of the series that was set to start in May.

However, as per Maya Hawke’s statement to Inverse, “The Duffer Brothers have worked on this script and will continue on it when the strike is over.”

With such crucial projects stuck in the waiting line, it is only a matter of time before the WGA caves into the writers’ demands. However, if that is not the case, then it is highly likely that Stranger Things season 5 will be indefinitely postponed.

That the show will remain at rest unless and until the Duffer Brothers relent may not be Newton’s law of motion but for fans of the series, it holds equal importance. It is also important to note that while the Duffer Brothers are in support of the strike, there has been an ample amount of development in the upcoming season.

Less has to be said about how much the Millie Bobby Brown-led drama means to Netflix. The two bond over more than just their similar-themed titles. Stranger Things was among the first to evoke expectations in Netflix originals. And it is also responsible for a million hours’ worth of views.

This is probably why it is not taking any chances when it comes to the finale. Even though the Duffer Brother stands in solitude with writers, others are doing their job. This explains Hawke’s belief in the quick continuation of production and the addition of two 90s legends to the cast.
