The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, and her marriage to the royal family has gone massively wrong given the trenchant controversies that have followed the couple ever since. Although Prince Harry was all for a drastic change within the House of Windsor, the great Imperial Family of the United Kingdom did not exactly see it coming. Nevertheless, they should have. Because Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not precisely the first royal couple to be a groundbreaking force of change.

As pointed out by a royal author, Tom Quinn in his latest publication, Gilded Youth, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle seemingly share some uncanny similarities with an age-old royal couple. They happen to be none other than another legit, controversial supposed monarch, King Edward VIII, and his wife, Wallis Simpson.

As reported by Express, the author drew some parallels between the two couples, and it actually makes sense. Like the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, this age-old story is all about passionate love and its dreaded ramifications in the masquerade of endless sacrifices in a royal household. He started elaborating on how King Edward ascended the throne following the death of the former monarch, King George V.

However, his life as a successor took an unexpected turn when he fell for a two-time divorcee of a nation abroad, Wallis Simpson. While he had to choose between the reign and the love of his life, the supposed King obviously sided with his lady love and married her, thus paying the cost for it by abdicating the monarchy.

How is Prince Harry different from King Edward VIII?

A UK royal denouncing the Sovereign for the love of his life. Rings a bell? As a matter of course, the royal author has thus stated his fear of the Duke and the Duchess meeting with the same fate. It would not be a lie if we said the Prince and his foreigner wife have already gone a bit too far in becoming the next King Edward and Wallis Simpson.

What did not run between the two couples was the former royal’s desire to use his children for power. King Edward, as reported, was much like King Lear, who wished to exercise his royal powers by weaponizing his children. Nonetheless, it is not an alien fact that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want to keep their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, away from the royal limelight and pomp show, hoping for a normal life like theirs.

What is your opinion about the same? Do you also concur with the royal author about his views regarding royal couples? Let us know in the comments below.
