Anya Chalotra Reveals How Filming This One Death for ‘The Witcher’ Was Embarrassing in Season 3
The Witcher Season 3 finally opened gates to the waging war on the Continent. Several key characters died while the home of mages, Aretuza, went down in flames. The latest season also featured some amazing stunt work, where Geralt fought valiantly to save his daughter from all the greedy monsters. Not to forget, Yennefer had an equal hand in keeping her close and safe, facing all the fears together like a family. While Yennefer lost her beloved Tissia in Volume 2, Anya Chalotra found the death of one particular character not painful but embarrassing.
Anya Chalotra recently sat down with Vulture to talk about her character Yennefer of Vengerberg. During the conversation, she shed light on the death sequences that looked spectacular on the screen. The actress revealed these scenes do not look so cool when they are actually shooting them. She recalled the Thanedd battle where the fire mage, Rience finds her and Ciri running away from Aretuza.

In this scene, the character pretends that they will not fight with him. She tells Rience that she is going to put down Geralt’s sword tied to her back. However, the mage instantly passes it with her magic to the mutant who severs his head from behind. But the behind-the-scene sword actually fell to the ground when they were filming.
“Thank goodness the camera turns away from my face, because I’m like, ‘Oh, that was embarrassing,'” remarked Chalotra. The British star also revealed that someone else then threw it fast. It was quite humiliating for the 27-year-old because her face looked so determined but the results were not the same. Besides this, the budding star also talked about her magic scenes, which were inspired by her culture.

It is well known that Yennefer struggled with magic previously, so when she gets it back in Season 3, new moves were necessary. So the team came to her to discuss it and pitched the idea of an Indian dance form, Kathak. Hearing this, the Wanderlust star instantly agreed to do it because she grew up watching all those things and was familiar with the dance due to her Indian origins.
“If we’re gonna elevate magic, why not use something I’m familiar with, especially when it’s all about hand gestures?,” she said. So when she did some spell-casting moves, everyone loved it. Thus, they incorporated Indian dance in the new season, which did look amazing in every possible way.
