“And I just sort of let go a little bit…” – Hugh Jackman Once Spoke About the Toll His Latest Film, ‘The Son’, Took on Him

Many actors find it difficult to shoot emotional scenes in their films. For instance, Will Smith revealed how shooting Emancipation took a toll on him. It was an emotionally draining shoot for the actor. Similarly, Hugh Jackman also opened up about the way his latest film, The Son, took a toll on him, and how the film personally impacted the actor.

The Son is the 2022 drama/narrative film. The Australian actor plays the role of a father in the film who helps his son the way he would have wanted his father to raise him. And these scenes, moments, and dialogues took a toll on the actor as Jackman told The Guardian during an interview in January 2023. He revealed it was technically and emotionally difficult for him while shooting for The Son because of the gap he had taken due to the pandemic.

“And I just sort of let go a little bit, stuff from my upbringing was coming up,” said Jackman.

The actor got disturbed by the personal feelings of being a father that he felt. He is also a father of a child and that started to worry him during the shoot. The actor felt even worse as it brought the memories of his late father, whom he lost because of Alzheimer’s. It became a lot harder for Jackman as his father passed away when he was actually shooting the movie.

Despite it bringing out the insecurities and fears of the actor, the filmmakers helped him in coping with it.

Hugh Jackman got an immense amount of support on the sets of The Son

While the Wolverine fame was suffering from these memories and insecurities, the filmmakers took care of him. Florian Zeller and Christopher Hampton, the makers of The Son, understood Jackman’s pain. They called a psychiatrist, which Jackman appreciated a lot. He said, as employers, it would be their duty to see to it that their employees are fine.

And because Zeller and Hampton were totally supportive of the actor, Jackman praised the efforts. While talking about the help he got on the set of the film, he admitted it was the first time for him when he was with a psychiatrist while filming. However, the Logan actor dealt with it and went with the process. Ultimately, the actor felt good and the film also got recognition.

Meanwhile, the actor is gearing up for Deadpool 3, prepping himself and feeling that his Wolverine would be the best version in the MCU flick.
