But where does it end, and will it take away jobs from writers or voice actors? Any technology progresses with the hope of making work cheaper, smoother, and more effective.

For people in the creative field, though, it means job cut-offs, unfair pay, and soulless creation that will slowly end the requirement of any human force. It has been days now since the writers’ union has been on strike, asking for AI regulations. Netflix, which is also affected by it, has put its step forward through a recent contract.

What does the newest Netflix contract say about AI usage?

The next season of Stranger Things or your favorite show may get delayed if the writer’s strike does not end. But the fast-paced AI usage has worried many industries, including writers. According to the New York Times, Netflix has drafted its own contract for protecting self-interests. The contract would allow them to simulate the voice of a voice actor as per the growth of AI today or in the future.

In their defense, the company maintains that it allows them to manipulate voices in the case of animated series. It helps them bridge voice differences for a character when a voice actor changes in the midst of a show or even a season. The union, on the other hand, wants to protect the interests of actors, writers, and singers involved in a project at any point or gets appropriately compensated.

What the Writers Guild of America West wants

In recent times, we have seen numerous videos of AI duplicating the sounds of Kanye West, Drake, and other singers much to their dislike. They want regulations in place to protect the unjustified use of AI that would harm their work. Although the major reason for the strike is still about wanting better pay for writers throughout the industry. Their jobs have not seen major pay increase despite the booming industry. To top it off, easy and cheap usage will allow show makers to have the upper hand and cut costs further from the writer’s department.
