The 5th installment of Spy Kids, titled Spy Kids: Armageddon, marks the franchise’s return after a long hiatus. Fans are up for a treat as the multi-million franchise debuted on Netflix. Spy Kids, which is inspired by James Bond flicks and Latino themes, is a reboot rather than a direct sequel to the original movies. While the streamer hoped that this would prove to be another crowd attractor, it seems to have dropped the axe on its own foot with its latest Spy Kids post.

Fans of X, formerly known as Twitter, felt nostalgic when the streaming giant shared a photo of Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino, who played a married couple in a Spy Kids film. They reminisced about their performance as the latest reboot, Spy Kids: Armageddon featured a completely different cast. More than the plot, fans had an insightful debate about which character had looked the finest in the movies.

Robert Rodriguez, the mastermind behind the movie, recently celebrated the comeback of his franchise and opened up on why it had returned with new faces. While the crux remains the same, the faces and the circumstances seem to have become new and approved. Or at least, that is what the director hoped to achieve. However, fans of the iconic series beg to differ in this case.

It was clear as the old image of Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino resurfaced that they would pick the original over the reboot any day.

Fans of the Spy Kids franchise were in for a ride when the OTT Mogul posted a picture of the ultimate Spy Kids duo. Many fans quickly reacted to the photo by posting memes and comments in the comment section, praising the pair’s amazing looks and sharing hilarious comments. However, fans were also disappointed to learn that the duo will not be appearing in the latest version of the franchise, as the cast has moved on from its earlier stars.

Users on X while praising their chemistry, posed some amusing comments such as “Carla Gugino, mother to millions,” and other variations of “Mother!” It will not be far-fetched to say that the resurfaced pictures of Carla Gugino single-handedly made way for the demand of the original cast in the iconic franchise.

Most of the reactions were reflective of how they cherished the couple in the franchise and were eager to see them again. While they may not be able to see the couple again, they will still watch Netflix’s reboot. Firstly, because the streamer has effectively made the audiences crave the Spy Kids‘ lore. Secondly, the steering wheel still remains in the hands of Robert Rodriguez.
