The last year was one of the most life-changing years in Will Smith’s life. Ever since the Oscar slap gate with comedian Chris Rock, he has become a subject of severe criticism from the masses. Apart from the public humiliation, the actor’s career was also affected. Most of his projects were either put on hold or canceled.
Recently, Eddie Murphy took a jab at the I Am Legend actor following his win at the Golden Globes. The Tower Heist actor said, “There’s a blueprint and I’ve followed it my whole career. Pay your taxes, mind your business and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your f—king mouth!.” However, Murphy even gave a very valuable advice that the Fresh Prince could have used back in his early days.
Eddie Murphy’s advice could have helped Will Smith back in the 2000s
Murphy’s “Pay your taxes” could have helped Smith back in his early days, wherein he fell in hot water with the Internal Revenue System. Back when Smith got his big breakthrough with his song ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand‘ back in 1998, the Fresh Prince started living beyond his means. The Emancipation actor started making huge luxury purchases, including cars, jewelry. and motorcycles. However, Smith couldn’t keep up with the lifestyle.
The young rapper found himself surrounded by financial problems. His follow-up album did not sell much and Smith did not even pay his taxes. Owing to that, IRS took over a number of glamorous assets owned by the Fresh Prince. Previously, the actor even revealed, “Being famous and broke is a sh—- combination,” during his STORYTIME series on YouTube.
Everything worked out for the best for the Men In Black star. As the actor struggled financially, his then-girlfriend suggested that he hang out on the sets of The Arsenio Hall Show, hoping his career would get a boost. Interestingly, that is where Smith met Benny Medina, who introduced Smith to Quincy Jones, the producer of Fresh Prince of Bel-air and the rest is history. It has been nearly 30 years since then and Smith has come a long way from where he started. The Emancipation lead is amongst the wealthiest actors in Hollywood.
Meanwhile, the actor’s latest film, Emancipation, made its way to our screens and is streaming on Apple TV+. Have you watched the movie? Feel free to let us know in the comments below.
