Ahead of Netflix’s ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Live-Action Release, Netizens Relay Their Mixed Feeling for the Show
With two animated TV series, a live-action film, various comics, games, and more to its name, the Avatar: The Last Airbender series’ franchise has spanned across decades of cinema. Now, Netflix has embarked on an attempt to create a live-action series based on its story too. Based on the life of Aang: a fun-loving airbender, the hugely popular original series that aired on Nickelodeon in the late 2000s was a dazzling portal to a world of elements.
Earlier, Netflix had announced the show to feature a similar storyline and is slated to release in 2024. Now, an X (formerly known as Twitter) page has announced that the series will launch on 22nd February next year. Although the OTT mogul has yet to confirm this, the news has caught the attention of netizens already. Ever since Netflix’s One Piece took the world by storm, viewers’ expectations of the Avatar live-action have considerably gone up.

With themes of balance, friendship, and redemption, Avatar: The Last Airbender transcends age as a timeless tale of self-discovery. For generations of viewers, it holds the special place of a ‘masterpiece’ in their hearts. However, audiences have long-held doubts about live-action adaptations of their beloved animated shows. Especially since in the past, attempts like Cowboy Bebop and Dragonball Evolution were met with colossal failure.
So, Twitterati was quick to relay these doubts in the comments section. While some lauded Netflix’s efforts, others were dreading the final result.
Twitterati is doubtful of another Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action
When Netflix released the first look of the show, fans were positively ecstatic. Still, not all have forgotten the disappointment of another live-action version that emerged from the Avatar franchise. In 2010, when the live-action film: The Last Airbender came out, it flopped with severely harsh ratings. Now, judging by the comments, netizens seemed hesitant to deem Netflix’s decision to create the new series a good one. One user even went on to say that Netflix’s version would not be “as bad as the movie“.
Some users were concerned by reports of showrunners abandoning the series mid-way. One user confessed to having “low/no hopes” for it.
However, there were those who were excited at the prospect of a live-action series. Especially if it actually launched during one user’s “birthday month“.

Whether the sceptical netizens’ predictions come true, only time will tell. Maybe Netflix will persevere and deliver justice to another animated masterpiece. After all, it did turn the tides with One Piece just a few months ago.
