After 30 Years Netflix Is Bringing Back Eddie Murphy’s Iconic Character

In the ups and downs of time, Hollywood has faced many transitions. As records and charts moved, so did the audience’s interests change over time. To survive amidst the metamorphosis, the industry too changed, and a slew of new genres and themes sprouted. While some actors faded into the distance, new ones arose while a handful went on to become legends. When action made rampant ingress with the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger taking charge, a blend of action comedy soon evolved which saw the talents of Eddie Murphy come to the rise.

In the decades following his famed appearances, one of his projects remained a fan-favorite and Netflix is now giving it another shot at life.

Netflix announces teaser release for an Eddie Murphy reprisal movie

In its quest for quality content, Netflix took fans down the nostalgia train. In an update on X (formerly Twitter), the streamer announced the release of a teaser for Beverly Hills Cop 4 starring Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley. Last on the screens in 1994, the action comedy remains slated for a 2024 release. The continuity would remain the same and the plot would have the protagonist return to action and investigate a murder and rampant corruption in the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Running for three iterations from 1984 to 1994, the fourth installment would come after a gap of 30 long years. The action-comedy surrounding the street-smart Detroit cop had launched Eddie Murphy into stardom and gained a massive fan following for the franchise. Alongside Murphy, the likes of Kevin Bacon, Judge Reinhold, and Taylour Paige, will also star in the movie.

In the meantime, the streaming giant has also taken to giving the nod to several returning visionaries, one of whom, again, stands as a fan favorite.

Zack Snyder sees light at the end of the tunnel at Netflix

The Man of Steel director faced an unceremonious exit from DC Studios following a divisive sequel in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Soon after, his entire band of DCU alongside Henry Cavill’s famed Superman had themselves out the door, leaving fans at a loss. However, in recent reports, not only has Zack Snyder pledged to return if Netflix were to acquire the rights for his DC Universe, but the latter is also under consideration.

The developments come at a time when the director has expanded his universe within Netflix. Helming a two-part space opera with Rebel Moon, his pandemic thriller with the streamer also received an update. As of now, Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon share the same universe. Additionally, the connection is so intricate that a sequel to the zombie-verse will only begin once the entirety of the Star Wars rival finishes its run.
