Along with it came an out-pour of love from the audience and critical acclaim that bolstered the show’s rating to record highs. Moreover, season one of the show also managed to save Netflix and fans from the ‘curse’ of unsuccessful mana-anime-live-actions. It shall thus come as no surprise when Netflix just dropped a special post for fans to commemorate the occasion.

The streaming giant got many of its previous wrongs rectified and itself redeemed with Oda’s creative vision for the show. One Piece season one surpassed fans’ expectations and sailed past streaming records of former Netflix heavyweights, Stranger Things and Wednesday. To celebrate some of the most defining moments from the series, Netflix released several character wallpapers from the season. The pictures cement the legacy of the series as the ‘curse-breaker’.

The show’s massive and widespread acclaim has led Netflix to renew it for a second season. The showmakers even have a six-season plan for it! Eiichiro Oda himself broke the news to fans on 14th September in a special video message and thus is time for fans to rejoice. All the while it is equally important to hail the prowess of the cast and crew behind season one which managed to rake in a staggering 34.8 million views within the first two weeks, making it numero uno on Netflix’s charts.

The next One Piece season will see Monkey D. Luffy and his crew set sail for Arabasta. While the first season covered the first four arcs of the manga, season two will expand its storyline even further. The Arabasta storyline in the manga and animes has the Straw Hat Pirates meet Vivi. Initially expected to be an enemy, Vivi turns out to be a very pivotal character, having a connection with Luffy and the Will of D.

It shall also see them fend off bounty hunters, encounter Crocus, and befriend Dorry and Brogy. While there is no expected time of release yet, Netflix would likely take its time to perfect it. Especially considering that the first season took about six years to make, the streaming giant will look to maintain its course and definitely prevent another disaster as season three of The Witcher.
